LOM partnered with NatWest to create a new London home for the bank’s Entrepreneur Accelerator programme. An adaptable, community-driven workplace set within three former retail units in the heart of Spitalfields.
The NatWest Accelerator Hub demonstrates how adaptive reuse, sustainable design, and inclusive community engagement can create far more than an office. It is a flexible space for innovation and entrepreneurial growth, embodying the people – centred design that is at the heart of LOM’s practice.
The design concept is centered on simplicity, longevity and flexibility, which led the transformation of the former retail units into a versatile office space that carefully respects the existing building fabric. The layout is informed by the original three retail units, dividing the office into an open-plan area, a quiet focus zone and a flexible community space, with colour zoning used to define these areas and aid orientation.
Wherever possible, existing materials have been retained: block work is painted rather than re-rendered and exposed concrete columns are left with a rough finish to add texture. In certain instances, furniture was creatively repurposed, such as transforming old fliptop tables as whiteboards with acoustic properties or a wall divider.
A combination of height-adjustable desks and ergonomic seating accommodates different working styles, while real planting is woven throughout the layout to promote biophilic benefits. With one lever access across the entire floorplate, the space remains fully accessible to all users, while quiet booths and varied seating options also support neurodiverse needs. Together the design elements create a calm, welcoming environment.
The hub is designed with wellbeing and inclusivity as a priority, supporting a diverse community through choices that prioritise comfort and accessibility. Fresh air is supplied at 12l/s per person, and natural light is maximised around workstations to create a bright healthy environment.
It was absolutely fantastic to follow the project delivery on our new Accelerator hub, witnessing the creativity play out in such an inspiring manner. The result is a vibrant and welcoming facility that perfectly supports the ambitions of the businesses within our Accelerator Community. LOM were excellent to work with from start to finish, demonstrating great professionalism and dedication throughout the project.
